Madras is the county seat and largest city in Jefferson Oregon. The nearby cities of Metolius and Culver as well as the unincorporated communities of Antelope and Shaniko access services from Madras. The population of Madras is 6011. Madras is the jumping off point for tourists accessing Lake Billy Chinook, an extremely popular summertime recreational amenity. It is also the home of the State of Oregon medium security prison, the Deer Ridge Correctional Facility.
